Synopsis

Kaelyn

He was my everything.
My every day and my every night.
My every dream and my every hope.
And then he was gone.
Someone once told me that love knows no bounds. It went beyond time, distance or hatred.
Could that possibly be true?

It wasn’t until five years after the day Lucas walked away from our life that I realized how true that was. He came barreling back into my reality and I was powerless to stop the love that still festered inside of my soul for him.

Now that he’s back, I don’t know how I can protect my heart from the wrath he’ll bring.

Even after all we’ve lost can we find the love we once shared, once more?

"I was a fooling fool, Kaelyn. There isn't a day that's gone by I haven't wished I'd stayed with you."

Breaking Lucas is the second book in Amanda Kaitlyn’s Trinity series and is meant to be read in order for the best reading experience.

Review

I was hired to proofread this book. While my focus was on spelling and grammar, I made some comments on other aspects of the story. I do not know if my comments were used to make changes to those parts of the story. If you feel that my connection to the book makes my review untrustworthy, so be it, but this is my honest review.

This book starts with a warning that this series should be read in order (it's book 2), and that's probably a good idea. I had some issues with the timeline in the story (it switches between past and present for two different characters) and those issues may not have cropped up if I had read the first book in the series first (I don't know for sure either way.)

Another issue I had with the story is that Kaelyn, in six years, never finds out why Lucas left in the first place, and Lucas never finds out the secret Kaelyn kept from him after he walked out. Elsa, Lucas's step-mother, sees Kaelyn occasionally and never once lets Lucas's secret slip...and she never once in all the time she spends with Lucas mentions what Kaelyn kept from him (and these are HUGE secrets y'all.) I mean, I suppose it could happen, but it just seems really unlikely to me, and I have more trouble suspending reality with contemporary novels than other genres.

I realize it may seem like I didn't enjoy the book at this point, but I was being paid to be critical, so those things are standing out to me more now that I'm trying to write this review. I did enjoy the story overall, even though I scoffed at the believability of some details. I thought the characters had decent depth, even if I couldn't fully accept their actions.

Overall I give Breaking Lucas 3.5 out of 5 stars. - Katie
